Purpose of Role
With guidance from the area Assistant Supervisor or Lead Associate as applicable, the Associate – Material Handling is responsible for processing in-bound/out-bound post-consumer electronics and associated materials in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Principal Accountabilities
- Support and comply with all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability (SHECS) policies, procedures, and initiatives, including SimsMMway Program, to ensure a safe work environment. This may include conducting Safety Conversations and submitting HazReps.
- Report any accidents, incidents, safety issues, errors, or other problems immediately to appropriate management personnel; assist with incident investigations as necessary.
- Support positive employee relations and team environment.
- Comply with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Identify and assist with continuous improvement and cost-control activities.
- Support Lean Six Sigma program initiatives, including conducting and/or participating in Huddle Boards as required.
- Work efficiently and diligently to provide cost-competitive service to our customers and provide appropriate guidance, assistance, and training to co-workers and contingent workers to ensure same.
- Dismantle, separate, and process electronic devices, components, and materials per customer specifications and operating procedures.
- Debox, sort, separate, and part-harvest electronic devices, components, and materials for resale and/or recycling in accordance with customer specifications and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Properly use manual and power hand tools to aid in dismantling of electronic and other devices.
- Identify and properly remove any hazardous materials (inks, batteries, toners, mercury lamps, etc.) and ensure they are placed into proper containers as directed by SHECS Department as applicable to job assignment.
- Help ensure that customer contract requirements are being achieved in accordance with Statement of Work; report any performance variations to appropriate management upon discovery.
- Perform Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) checks are completed as required.
- Maintain clean and organized workstation.
- Effectively use Company systems and equipment to ensure accuracy of production process.
- Meet daily/monthly quota based on current metrics standards.
- Perform Lead Associate duties on occasion in their absence if requested.
- Where applicable, help ensure that inbound/outbound freight is coordinated effectively.
- Where applicable, operate mobile plant equipment and provide training as necessary.
- Participate in relevant training as required.

Experience/Qualifications Required
- Relevant high school qualifications or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred
- Experience in warehouse or manufacturing environment, preferred
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to communicate and comprehend written and verbal procedures/signage in English for safe and proper material processing (including interpretation of Statement of Work and safety instructions)
- Basic written skills in English to complete applicable processing and safety documentation as needed
- Basic mathematical skills for process tracking and production counts as needed
- Must pass pre-hire assessment if required and demonstrate above-listed skills
Working Conditions
• Work is performed in a non-climate controlled warehouse environment with potential exposure to dust, extreme temperatures, humidity, and high noise level
• Some typical use of office equipment including computers, telephones, copiers, etc., as applicable to position
• Long periods of sitting, standing, and walking
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, fitted dust mask, etc., as required
• Work schedule may be adjusted as business needs dictate
• Must be able to take on new assignments as needed regardless of existing workload
• Must be able to work under deadlines and related stresses in a timely manner
