Transportation Coordinator
Job Summary
Assist in day-to-day transportation dispatching and fleet operations for the Southeast region to ensure safe, compliant, and cost‑effective movement of materials as needed. Allocate and monitor work for company drivers and contractors; maintain DOT/DMV/IFTA/IRP compliance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Dispatch, Scheduling & Customer Service
- Maintain transport/dispatch systems to ensure accurate, current job data (e.g., TMS/dispatch tools).
- Allocate transport jobs to transport teams, i.e. company drivers and contractor drivers, considering urgency, location, cost, equipment suitability, HOS, and compliance.
- Ensure job tickets contain complete and accurate vendor/customer requirements and special instructions. Maintain TMS data
- Monitor job progress; update systems at completion; document cost impacts (detention, futile loads, closures, etc.).
- Communicate proactively with drivers and customers, on status, exceptions, and resolution of incomplete jobs.
- Ensure job records and pricing data are accurate to enable timely billing and payment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality requirements
- Comply with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives relevant to the job
- Support training and performance-management initiatives
- Coordinate equipment moves to/from service shops; schedule dispatch around out‑of‑service assets.
- Reconcile Teletrac notifications in accordance with asset tracking protocols. Maintain
- Prepare and maintain daily work schedules, missed load reports, and 30/60/90‑day inventories of assets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel materials and equipment. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and communicate verbally. The employee is also frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl when accessing or servicing equipment.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Conditions
- Fast‑paced operations environment with frequent coordination across drivers, shops, and vendors.
- Provide occasional after‑hours and rotational on‑call coverage to support equipment breakdowns, including coordinating and dispatching roadside services (e.g., tire replacement, towing, and emergency mechanical assistance) to ensure driver safety and asset recovery.
- Provide route coverage as needed, including travel across regional sites and service vendor locations.
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications)
- Associate degree, advanced diploma/level 4 award, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years in an industrial transport/logistics environment (or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and state DMV/IFTA/IRP requirements.
- Preferred: knowledge of ferrous/non‑ferrous scrap metal operations and scrap transport requirements.
- Experience with Encompass (DVIRs), Teletrac/telematics, AX/ERP, and TMS/dispatch systems preferred.

- Strong computing and systems skills; accurate data entry and recordkeeping.
- Excellent customer service and communication (written and verbal).
- Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple deadlines.
- High‑level scheduling/planning skills and attention to detail.
- Data analysis/interpretation with sound judgment and problem‑solving.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain effective relationships internally/externally.
