Job Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing the processing of scrap as efficiently as possible while promoting an accident-free and environmentally compliant workplace.   The Yard Supervisor is also responsible for oversight of the yard personnel and day to day operations including maintenance on equipment, monthly inspections, and safety. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works with site and regional staff, vendor/suppliers, and clients/customers.
  • Oversees yard operations including directing employees.
  • Trains and directs department employees in proper use of equipment.
  • Order and purchases parts and equipment.
  • Provides training in the areas of safety equipment operations and material identification.
  • Performs weekly and monthly inspections of all equipment and machinery.
  • Schedules preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintains site and equipment maintenance records.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting hydraulic problems and directing personnel in repairing equipment.
  • Responsible for enforcement of safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Sills and Experience:

  • Must have 3 – 5 years applicable industry experience or related industry.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Must be willing to work in shop area and outdoor environment in all types of weather.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to find suitable solutions for productivity, environmental, safety-related, and employment issues.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs on heavy equipment and machinery desired.
  • Commercial license (Class A) a plus.
  • Must have some knowledge of computers.
  • Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in a scrap yard including but not limited to: torches, cranes, loaders, forklifts, bobcats, shears, balers, and other production-related equipment.
