Job Summary

The Shift Supervisor oversees and coordinates the daily activities of employees operating equipment used to process recyclable materials, including screening, sorting, separating, and baling operations. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and productive operations while maintaining quality standards and meeting production goals.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor daily sorting, equipment operation, material processing, and packaging activities to ensure compliance with company standards and production requirements.
  • Review production schedules and coordinate with management to plan and execute daily shift operations.
  • Assign work responsibilities based on production priorities and provide guidance on the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Inspect machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure safe operation and compliance with production and quality standards.
  • Monitor production metrics and ensure daily operational goals are achieved.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate production, attendance, and timekeeping records.
  • Delegate tasks, monitor employee performance, and ensure work is completed according to established schedules.
  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, workflow efficiency, and quality.
  • Train, coach, and support employees to ensure safe work practices and operational excellence.
  • Communicate operational issues, staffing needs, and production updates to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in manufacturing, recycling, industrial, or warehouse operations preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment-related issues.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to complete production reports and timekeeping records.

  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Use hands to handle, grasp, or operate tools and equipment.

  • Occasionally walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an industrial recycling facility. Employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical equipment, dust, varying weather conditions, and high noise levels. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times in accordance with company safety policies.
