Operations Supervisor – Southeast

Department: Operations

Reports To: Yard or Facility Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Position Summary

The Operations Supervisor partners with the Yard or Facility Manager to plan, coordinate, and execute daily operational activities at the facility. This role provides hands-on leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant processing, receiving, shipping, and material-handling operations. The Supervisor is responsible for directing personnel, maintaining equipment and yard organization, tracking production, and fostering a strong safety culture.

Main Responsibilities

• Direct daily oversight of receiving, material handling, equipment use, and labor activities to include maintenance and other equipment needs.

• Oversee loading/unloading of trucks to ensure safe and accurate material movement.

• Maintain an organized and efficiently operated yard environment.

• Execute daily operational requirements and communicate production to management.

• Maintain accurate inventories and support timely outbound shipments.

• Ensure proper storage of finished goods in alignment with quality controls.

• Promote safety culture and ensure compliance with standards.

• Conduct daily inspections and maintain required documentation.

• Supervise, train, and mentor yard personnel.

• Assist with daily operational planning and employee assignments.

• Maintain accurate logs, reports, inventories, and compliance documentation.

 

 

 

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in the scrap or metal industry.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work across all levels.

• Computer skills for reporting and databases.

• Hands-on leadership and ability to work independently.

• Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and work in outdoor environments.

• Strong safety awareness.

• Basic understanding of scrap metal types.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Prior experience in scrap recycling, construction, warehouse, or labor roles.

Work Environment

• Outdoor industrial environment with weather, dust, machinery, and noise exposure.

• Requires standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive activity.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required for this role include:

  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
