Parts Counter Person acts as the primary bridge between the yard's inventory and the customer. Responsibilities include assisting customers with locating vehicles, pricing parts, processing sales, and enforcing safety and yard rules.
Core Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales
- Greet customers as they enter, identify their specific automotive needs, and guide them toward the right vehicle makes/models in the yard.
- Answer incoming phone calls to provide price quotes, check general vehicle availability, and answer questions regarding yard policies.
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems, handle cash and card transactions, and process admission or tool fees.
Yard Operations & Administration
- Enforce yard rules (e.g., verifying customers are of age, ensuring no jacks, open-toed shoes or torches are brought into the yard).
- Inspect purchased parts and incoming returned parts to verify condition and prevent swapping/theft.
- Issue receipts, tag pulled parts properly, and track cores (e.g., old alternators, engines).
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Automotive Knowledge: A solid foundational understanding of auto mechanics, parts interchangeability, and car makes/models.
- Customer Skills: Friendly, patient, and professional attitude when dealing with a wide variety of walk-in customers.
- Physical & Environmental Tolerance: Ability to stand for long periods.
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, coupled with previous retail, cashier, or auto parts experience.
