Job Summary
A Mobile Maintenance Supervisor oversees the repair, servicing, and ongoing preventative maintenance of mobile heavy equipment (such as haul trucks, excavators, loaders, dozers, drill rigs, or fleet vehicles). This role ensures maximum equipment availability, operational efficiency, and safety compliance while leading a shift or team of mobile equipment technicians, mechanics, and field service workers.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Operational & Field Supervision

Direct, lead, and schedule daily maintenance tasks and field repair operations for mobile equipment.

Manage emergency breakdown responses, prioritizing urgent field repairs to minimize operational downtime.

Interface with operations, dispatch, and planning teams to schedule preventative maintenance (PM) without interrupting production targets.

Conduct daily shift handovers and perform regular field inspections to ensure repair quality and workspace safety.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

Enforce adherence to safety guidelines, company policies, and relevant regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, MSHA, local environmental laws).

Lead pre-shift safety meetings (toolbox talks) and conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).

Investigate workplace incidents, near-misses, or equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Asset Management & PM Systems

Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS/ERP like SAP, Maximo, or Fleetio) to manage work orders, track equipment history, and schedule routine servicing.

Oversee component life cycles, oil sampling/analysis programs, and wear tracking to forecast major overhauls.

Work with inventory teams to manage spare parts, tool room availability, and vendor/OEM service representatives.
Team Leadership & Development

Mentor, train, and coach mechanics, technicians, and apprentices in troubleshooting and advanced repair techniques.

Evaluate team performance, conduct reviews, and manage shift labor allocation.
Typical Qualifications & Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED required. An Associate degree or technical diploma in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or a related trade field is strongly preferred.

Certifications:

Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic Journeyperson / Trade Certification (e.g., Red Seal, ASE Heavy Duty Truck/Equipment).

Safety Certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, MSHA, First Aid/CPR).

Valid Driver’s License (Commercial Driver's License/CDL often required or preferred).

Experience:

5–10 years of hands-on experience maintaining heavy mobile equipment in mining, construction, transit, or fleet operations.

2+ years of direct supervisory, lead hand, or maintenance planning experience.
