Purpose of Role

The Accounting Manager supports the financial control and reporting function to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information. Working closely with the Financial Controller and broader finance team, this role assists with financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, and cash flow monitoring. The position also serves as the Business Unit’s primary technical accounting expert, provides accounting guidance to operational and commercial stakeholders, supports audit processes, and contributes to ongoing process improvements within the finance function.

Principal Accountabilities

 

Financial Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, and Cash Flow.
  • Support compliance with applicable accounting standards (IFRS) and internal reporting policies.
  • Assis with Business Unit reporting requirements for half-year and year-end reporting cycles, including supporting disclosures and audit deliverables.
  • Support coordination of external and statutory audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to queries.

Internal Controls & Governance

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of internal control policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation of financial processes and controls.
  • Contribute to strengthening the control environment and identifying areas for improvement.

Technical Accounting & Advisory

  • Act as the primary technical accounting expert for the Business Unit. Where relevant, provide technical accounting training and guidance to finance and operational teams.
  • Provide accounting and financial guidance on contracts, capital projects, restructures, strategic initiatives, system or process changes, and acquisition activities.
  • Assess accounting treatment for significant and non-routine transactions, with reference to IFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers, IFRS 16 Leases, IAS 36 Impairment of Assets, IAS 37 Provisions, Contingent Liabilities and Contingent Assets, and IFRS 3 Business Combinations.
  • Prepare accounting position papers and technical assessments for review by Group Finance.
  • Ensure local accounting practices remain aligned with Group Accounting Policies.
  • Partner with Group Finance to support implementation of new and revised IFRS standards within the Business Unit.

Balance Sheet, Capital & Asset Planning

  • Oversee the balance sheet reconciliation process, ensure timely resolution of reconciling items, and confirm that balance sheet positions accurately reflect underlying business activities.
  • Review capitalization assessments and asset disposals, ensuring alignment with Group capital expenditure policies and IFRS requirements.
  • Support impairment assessments and asset valuation reviews where required.

Cash Flow & Working Capital

  • Assist with cash flow monitoring and liquidity reporting.
  • Support working capital analysis across receivables, payables, and inventory.
  • Partner with Treasury and operational teams to improve cash management processes.

Financial Analysis

  • Perform financial analysis and assist with interpretation of financial statement trends.
  • Support collaboration with FP&A and business unit teams to provide reporting insights.

Key Performance Indicator (KPIs)

  • No reported non-compliance with IFRS or Group Accounting Policies.
  • Monthly reporting timetables met.
  • Timely completion of the BU component audit and delivery of local audited accounts to statutory timelines.
  • Reduction in audit issues, with internal and external audit findings remediated within agreed timeframes.
  • Timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations and reduction in aged reconciling items.
  • High-quality technical accounting assessments delivered on time.
  • Successful implementation of new and revised accounting standards

Experience / Qualifications Required

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and technical accounting requirements.
  • Proven experience partnering with business stakeholders to deliver financial insights and support data-driven decision-making.
  • CA/CPA qualification (or equivalent),
  • Understanding of internal controls frameworks.
  • Experience working with internal and external auditors.
  • ERP system experience
  • Experience with reconciliation and reporting tools, such as BlackLine and Power BI and familiarity with Hyperion HFM
