Job Summary:

The Railcar Mover/Operator is a key role in the production of both ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal recycling. The

primary function is the inbound and outbound of material by rail. The role of a Railcar Mover/Operator is the beginning

and the end of the processing scrap metal.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Inspect daily and operate mobile equipment including track mobile, loader, and forklift. Inspect rail scale daily.
  • Unload and load inbound and outbound railcars. Inspect railcars with scale radiation and hand held radiation detector. Record weights and take pictures before and after.
  • Move material on flatcar between the ferrous yard and nonferrous yard
  • Maintain housekeeping on the rail which includes cleaning up debri and overgrown vegetation.
  • Various other tasks will be required and assigned as needed for continuous flow of operations.
  • Create and maintain a safe work environment. Follow SIMS Metal Management and OSHA safety requirements in all aspects of the day to day operations.
  • Take part in the safety program and raise concerns to management about unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Report OBAs, Near Misses, and Incidents

 

Job Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ year experience in rail
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Required to follow SIMS Metal Management and OSHA safety regulations
  • Willingness to continue to learn and grow with the company
  • Overtime may be required
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions expected in the southwest region of the United States of America
  • Ability to learn quickly and stay motivated. Work at a continuous productive pace safely
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and get on and off equipment multiple times within a work shift
  • Ability to work in a team setting and be respectful to other coworkers
