2nd Shift - Sunday - Thursday 5pm - 5am and Fridays 5pm-1am
Purpose of Role
The Baler Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the baling machine to compress and package scrap metal materials for shipping or storage. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient yard operations and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Principal Accountabilities
- Operate baler equipment to compress scrap metal into bundles or bales.
- Monitor and adjust machine settings for optimal performance.
- Feed materials into baler while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on baler equipment.
- Inspect materials for contaminants and ensure only acceptable metals are processed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization around the baler area.
- Record production data and complete daily logs as required.
- Communicate with team members and supervisors to coordinate workflow.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience Required:
- High School diploma or GED
- 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Forklift certification or experience operating heavy equipment (a plus).
- Knowledge of different types of scrap metals and sorting procedures.
- Experience maintaining baler or other recycling equipment.
Skills:
- Ability to safely operate, monitor, and maintain metal baling machines.
- Basic mechanical aptitude – For troubleshooting minor equipment issues and performing routine maintenance
- Experience with forklifts, skid steers, or other yard machinery (a plus).
- Understanding of scrap metal types – Ability to identify and sort various ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Work Environment:
- Primarily warehouse and outdoor environment with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs, climb, bend, and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Weekend or extended hours may be required depending on business needs.
