Job Summary:

 

The Yard Supervisor is responsible for general supervision of the yard personnel and day to day operations including maintenance on equipment, monthly inspections, and safety.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Personnel:

  • Supervise and coordinate workforce on shift
  • Schedules yard personnel according to current production needs
  • Actively participates in the hiring/terminating/disciplining/promoting yard personnel

Safety:

  • Promote a climate of continuous improvement in safety, production, personnel relations, equipment and maintenance
  • Interpret company policy to workers and enforce safety and environmental regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring the yard is secured at end of the shifts. Including fire watch and any and all environmental issues dealt with. Ensure that all Company assets are secured appropriately.

Production:

  • Recommend measures to improve production methods and equipment performance
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of workers
  • Ensure that all inbound materials are received/inspected and processed to optimize grade and maximize sales opportunities.
  • Ensure that all outbound shipments are in compliance with transportation specifications
  • Ensure monthly sales volumes are achieved by scheduling crews and company assets.
  • Ensure that all equipment/yard performances/quotes are, in a timely matter signed off and passed on for purchase orders to be created, ensuring our suppliers are paid.
  • Quality Assurance: inspect the loads to identify if material is properly grated and sorted. Inspect the metal after production.
  • May be assigned to any shift based on workload and company needs
  • The employee may be assigned to special projects or required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet Company needs

  • Ability to prioritize and plan ahead
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience
  • Must be computer literate and have strong working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Associate degree in the related discipline preferred but not required
  • Knowledgeable of tools and equipment i.e. overhead cranes, welding equipment and shredders
  • Strong knowledge and background in safety
  • Minimum 7 years working in strong safety culture
