Job Summary:

 

The Class A Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting metal materials, roll-off containers, and equipment between customer sites, suppliers, and the recycling yard. This role requires operating Class A commercial vehicles in an industrial environment while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations, company safety standards, and operational schedules.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Operate Class A commercial vehicles (including tractor-trailers, dump trailers, and roll-off trucks) to transport scrap metal and related materials between customer locations, processing facilities, and transfer yards.
  • Review daily schedules and routing to ensure accuracy, material requirements, and supply needs.
  • Ensure all required supplies, equipment, and documentation are secured on the vehicle prior to departing the yard.
  • Load, unload, tarp, and secure materials safely and in compliance with DOT and company standards.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs, safety concerns, or incidents promptly.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, route sheets, bills of lading, scale tickets, and electronic or manual records.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics, yard personnel, and customers throughout assigned routes, including end-of-stop updates.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized vehicle at all times.
  • Adhere strictly to DOT, OSHA, and company safety policies, including yard-specific safety procedures, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist with basic yard operations as needed, such as spotter duties, equipment movement, or material staging.
  • Represent the company in a professional and courteous manner with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

 

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of experience operating tractor-trailers, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, or similar commercial vehicles.
  • Experience hauling scrap metal, roll-off containers, or industrial materials strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience packaging and preparing loose freight for transport preferred.
  • Must possess a current, clean or acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Ability to pass DOT physical, drug, and alcohol screening requirements.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and commercial driving safety standards.
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor, industrial, and heavy-equipment environments.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to safety, detail, and regulatory compliance.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.

 

 

Physical & Environmental Requirements

 

  • Ability to climb in and out of trucks and trailers multiple times per shift.
  • Ability to lift, pull, and secure tarps and chains (up to 40 lbs.).
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, heavy machinery, and metal materials typical of a recycling yard.
