Job Summary:
To oversee production & maintenance for Shredder while maintaining a high level of safety. This would include all aspects of daily production, maximize manpower performance and improve shredder maintenance to minimize downtime.
The employee may be assigned to special projects or required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs.
Responsibilities:
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, OSHA standards, and company policies
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and training sessions
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and reporting requirements
- Shredder Production, including oversight over 3 shift shredder operations
- Coordinate maintenance & repairs of shredders and ancillary equipment
- Approving daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports & documentation for mill
- All material flow to and from the mill, including truck and equipment traffic
- Shredder improvement & special projects
- Develop & organize a system for tracking wear parts
- Increase production& decrease production costs, minimize downtime and improve yard maintenance
- Ensure all employees are properly trained and use proper procedures for operation and maintenance
- Develop and improve information reporting for production, downtime, wear parts costs, and tracking ferrous and non-ferrous recoveries
Job Qualifications/Experience:
- High school or technical school diploma required, undergraduate degree preferred
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising employees in a similar scrap-handling work or comparable industrial operations desired
- Hands-on experience with the operation & maintenance of shredders and material handling equipment preferred but not necessary
- Knowledge of different types of scrap metal is a plus
- Must have exemplary safety record
- Employee must demonstrate good people skills in supervising the work of union employees
- Must be able to communicate with and motivate the work force to assure the completion of mechanical and maintenance repairs as expeditiously and cost effectively as possible, to avoid work stoppages while maintaining safety
- Must be able to take over (on an emergency basis) responsibility of the operations manager.
- Should have good understanding of the operation of equipment and be able to determine problems and be able to make decisions to solve the problem
- Must be computer literate for communications, and to design & input various reports
- Must have good communication skills to interact with customers and commercial drivers
Job Conditions:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40
- Able to walk or stand for long periods of time
- Must be comfortable around heavy machinery and outdoor industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery
