The Sims Global Finance function has embarked on an exciting phase of change and transformation. Within our Global Finance team this means we are currently focused on transforming the following priorities:

  • Better use of our technology and systems to unlock efficiencies, remove duplication and increase cross-functional sharing
  • Increase our analytical assessment of business performance and incorporate a whole-of-business value impact in our decision making
  • Accelerate the potential of Shared Services to ensure we achieve the benefits of transactional efficiencies, reporting and automation
  • Ensure our cost base is effective and built for purpose along with the rest of the business
  • Optimise the way we are organised to ensure targeted efficiencies, manageable workloads and more development pathways for our people
  • Leverage and actively build upon our strong culture

 

This is a newly created role within the Assurance Team. This role is pivotal to standardising and streamlining financial and related operational policies across the company as it grows, ensuring they are effectively embedded throughout the organisation - promoting consistency, efficiency and compliance.The role is responsible for the design, development and implementation of a robust but simplified policy and process framework that applies across all Sims Limited operations and delivers robust financial governance, processes and controls.

We see this Framework as a key enabler of a risk-mature organization, where our Policies provide guidance that empowers employees to make decisions while managing risk. The role has accountability for the establishment, implementation and training of the business, in both existing and new operations, in their understanding and application of the framework, policies and processes. 

 

Accountabilities

  • Design, lead and drive the company financial governance framework and related processes, ensuring the business has aligned its obligations and the group has confidence in the results being reported
  • Ensure operational and financial policies are developed, reviewed, and updated (as applicable) so that they are fit-for-purpose, simple, and meet the company’s strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure the alignment of improved financial controls across the organisation in line with the corporate strategy and under a simplification remit.  Working with the Head of Assurance, the Group Financial Controller, and other key team members, you proactively work to monitor and improve the financial governance of the company. 
  • Implement best practices to simplify and standardise key processes across various departments and regions.
  • Work closely with different teams to integrate policies and processes seamlessly into existing operations. Where Sims acquires a new business, the role has accountability for ensuring Financial Policies and Processes are adopted and understood in an expedited manner.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure policies and processes are practical and effective.
  • Provide training and support to our people to ensure understanding and compliance with relevant policies and processes.
  • Turn process weaknesses into opportunities by bringing experiences and perspective from your past roles and industries.
  • Establish metrics and monitoring systems to evaluate the effectiveness of policies and processes, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in policy and process management.

The role brings an operating and practical lens to the application of financial requirements and disciplines for the company.  It ensures we are driving a visionary approach to consistent financial performance, uplifting controls and governance, whilst supporting the group in managing changing business environments and required improvements through the mentoring and influencing of others.

Experience and Education

  • Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Law or a related field.
  • Risk Management qualifications or experience highly desirable.
  • Experience in policy development, process improvement, or a related role.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of operational and financial processes within a global organisation.

Skill Set

  • You are a thought leader who can skilfully articulate outcomes and then work with the business to drive results. You interpret and comprehensively analyse all available information to envision desired outcomes.
  • You have demonstrated experience advising and influencing a diverse range of people on governance and process and possess the ability to listen and understand positions to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes, while ensuring compliance.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills which complement your analytical and problem-solving abilities and an uneasiness in your desire to rectify areas requiring improvement.  You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey policies and procedures, ensuring teams understand the ‘why’ behind our financial governance framework and how it is an enabler for improved performance. You have exceptional attention to detail and produce outstanding written documentation which conveys complex subjects in simple, plain English terms. You are methodical yet flexible and pragmatic and are steadfastly focused on achieving outcomes within agreed timeliness.
