Job Summary

The Inspector is responsible for inspecting, identifying, grading, and purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous materials received at the facility to ensure compliance with company specifications, quality standards, and applicable regulations.

Major Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Examine incoming customer materials to identify and classify ferrous and non-ferrous commodities.
  • Determine the appropriate commodity grade and purchase classification for materials received.
  • Inspect materials to ensure compliance with company specifications, quality standards, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify that materials meet shipping and processing standards.
  • Use computer systems and kiosks to accurately process and record material purchases.
  • Mark materials as approved or rejected based on inspection results and document findings as required.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and purchasing records.
  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with suppliers and customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • One (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus but are not required.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to work with electronic purchasing systems.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish different grades of scrap metal is preferred.

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical equipment, and industrial environments typical of a scrap metal recycling facility. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times as required by company policy.
