Yard Manager – Scrap Metal & Shredder Operations
Lead a high-performing team in a dynamic industrial environment
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Yard Manager to oversee the safe, efficient, and productive operation of our busy scrap metal processing and shredder facility.
This is a key leadership role responsible for managing daily site operations and leading a team of approximately 30 employees across yard operations, machinery operation, shredder processing, and weighbridge functions.
The successful candidate will be a hands on leader with strong operational expertise, a commitment to safety, and the ability to drive performance in a fast paced environment.
About the Role
Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day to day running of the facility while maintaining high standards of safety, productivity, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily yard operations, including scrap processing, production, loading, and transport activities
- Supervise and support weighbridge operators, machine operators, shredder operators, and yard personnel
- Work closely with maintenance teams to minimise equipment downtime and maximise operational efficiency
- Monitor production performance, stock movements, and key operational targets
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality requirements
- Foster a strong safety culture through visible leadership and accountability
- Drive team engagement, performance, and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven leadership experience managing operational teams in an industrial, manufacturing, recycling, logistics, or heavy industry environment
- Strong knowledge of production, plant, or yard operations
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety
- Excellent people leadership and communication skills
- The ability to make sound decisions and manage competing priorities
- Experience leading teams in a fast-paced operational environment
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a focus on achieving results
