We are seeking an experienced State Engineer to join our team based at St Marys, NSW, reporting to the Regional Operations Manager (NSW/ACT).

In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure the safe and efficient performance of plant and equipment by managing routine and preventative maintenance, repairs, and major shutdowns. You’ll play a key part in optimising productivity, driving continuous improvement, and supporting major projects.

 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead maintenance, fault finding, repair, and shutdown activities to maximise plant performance
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and increase productivity
  • Manage and mentor a team, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations
  • Partner with Yard and Operations Managers to review and optimise equipment utilisation
  • Collaborate with Project Engineering on new plant installations and commissioning
  • Ensure compliance with all EHS, risk management, and statutory requirements
  • Assist with budgets, CAPEX planning, and cost management

 

Who We're Looking For

You are a proactive, hands-on engineering leader who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment. You’ll bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Proven experience in plant/equipment maintenance, preferably within heavy industry
  • Excellent people management and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to manage costs, budgets, and CAPEX planning
  • Resilience, agility, and confidence under pressure
  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal and processing techniques (advantageous)
