Operator
Reporting to the Yard Supervisor, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of our recycling facility. This is a permanent afternoon shift position, with working hours generally 12:00pm to 8:00pm, however flexibility is required as finish times may vary based on operational requirements.
In this hands-on role, you will operate a variety of mobile plant and equipment, including material handlers, excavators and forklifts, to sort, grade, and process ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
You will also support the day-to-day running of the yard by assisting with the unloading of materials, maintaining site housekeeping standards, and contributing to a safe, productive, and well-organised work environment.
Working as part of a dedicated team, you will ensure all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures, environmental requirements, and quality standards.
What you’ll be doing:
- Unload trucks, skip bins, and trailers safely and efficiently.
- Operate a range of mobile plant and equipment, including forklifts, material handlers, loaders, and excavators.
- Grade, sort, and process ferrous and non-ferrous metals in line with operational, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Assist with the receival, processing, storage, and dispatch of recyclable materials.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment through effective housekeeping practices.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, safety, and operational policies and procedures.
- Proactively identify and report hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Assist with general yard duties and support other operational activities as required.
- Provide customer service and maintain positive relationships with drivers, customers, contractors, and visitors to the site
What you’ll bring:
- Current forklift licence(desirable)
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Flexibility and willingness to assist across various operational areas.
- Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of metal grading and recycling processes would be an advantage.
- Experience operating heavy mobile plant and equipment.
