Your New Role

 

Reporting to the Yard Supervisor, you will play a key role in leading the day-to-day activities of our recycling facility. As a hands-on Team Leader, you'll work alongside the team to ensure operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and productively while helping to create a positive and supportive work environment.

 

You will provide guidance and direction to yard employees, coordinate daily tasks, and lead by example in safety, customer service, and operational excellence. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you'll operate or learn to operate a variety of mobile plant and equipment, including excavators and forklifts, to sort, grade and process ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

What You'll Be Doing 

 

  • Lead and support the yard team to ensure daily activities are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate work priorities and assist with the allocation of tasks across the team.
  • Act as a role model for safety, teamwork and operational excellence.
  • Operate plant and equipment, including forklifts
  • Grade, sort and process ferrous and non-ferrous metals to meet operational and quality requirements.
  • Assist with receiving, processing and dispatching recyclable materials.
  • Monitor housekeeping standards and maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment.
  • Identify, report and assist in addressing hazards, incidents and unsafe conditions.
  • Support customer interactions and deliver a positive experience for drivers, suppliers and customers.
  • Work closely with the Yard Supervisor to help drive productivity, performance and continuous improvement.

 

What You'll Bring 

 

  • Current Forklift Licence and or operating experience an advantage but not required
  • Previous experience in a leadership
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Ability to lead by example and support the development of others.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic and a team-first approach.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions and take initiative.
  • Knowledge of metal grading and recycling processes would be highly regarded.
  • A willingness to learn, grow and develop your leadership capability.
