Are you someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and being part of a hardworking team? We're looking for a Yard Operator / General Hand to join our recycling operations in Nelson.
This is a great opportunity to work in an industry that plays a vital role in sustainability and resource recovery. You'll be involved in a variety of duties across the yard, helping to process recyclable materials, assist customers, and ensure the site operates safely and efficiently.
Whether you already have industry experience or are looking to develop new skills, we offer training and support to help you succeed.
What you’ll do
- Operate a forklift and other yard equipment.
- Sort, inspect, and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Assist with purchasing and receival of recyclable materials.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and site presentation.
- Follow all health, safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
- Contribute to a positive safety culture by identifying and reporting hazards.
- Provide friendly and professional service to customers and suppliers.
- Support the wider team with general yard duties as required.
Who are we looking for:
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Reliable and proactive approach to work.
- Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn about metal identification and grading.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work in an outdoor environment.
- Strong teamwork skills and a positive attitude.
- Forklift licence would be a bonus but not essential
- Good communication and customer service skills.
