Job Responsibilities:

  • Instil a proactive culture of compliance with Chain of Responsibility, heavy vehicle law, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for, and ensure compliance with, all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies, procedures, and initiatives within the team.
  • Develop and implement localised transport solutions in alignment with national transport, operational, and commercial strategy.
  • Set, monitor, and regularly review KPIs for asset utilisation, route planning, service levels, and cost performance.
  • Maximise the utilisation of company and subcontractor assets through effective use of IVMS and GPS systems.
  • Actively manage bin utilisation, asset health, preventive maintenance schedules, and timely replacement.
  • Regularly review transport costs by monitoring monthly profit and loss (P&L) reports; take action to address any cost variances and increases.
  • Manage costs in line with budgetary requirements and financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the use of the latest systems and tools; verify adoption and address barriers to use through feedback and support.
  • Proactively manage relationships with contractor partners, ensuring compliance with contracts and exploring new partnership opportunities.
  • Maintain a skilled and engaged workforce of drivers and support staff who deliver high standards of customer service to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure availability of accurate and timely reporting; identify and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence; support and recommend initiatives that foster compliance with quality requirements.
  • Utilize data and analytics to achieve positive outcomes in cost, performance, and asset utilization.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion, positive employee relations, and teamwork; ensure all workers are treated fairly and equitably.
  • Cultivate a well-trained workforce, supporting performance management and career development initiatives.
  • Engage with key customers and internal stakeholders to align transport solutions with business needs.
  • Provide strong operational leadership during critical events, operational disruptions, or incidents, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution.

Experience/ Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience managing large transport teams, preferably in Western Australia or similar regions.
  • Familiarity with transporting bulk material across metro and regional areas.
  • Experience in the scrap metal industry preferred; experience in the transport of other dry bulk commodities (mining, aggregate, waste, agriculture) is highly transferable.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams in a complex, highly regulated environment
  • Proven experience working with contractor partners, fleet providers, or subcontractor networks.
  • Background in managing budgets, analysing transport cost drivers, and implementing operational efficiencies is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to motivate, coach, and influence a diverse team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly in responding to operational challenges or incidents.
  • Team player who actively partners with business units and management.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement, and take accountability for outcomes.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
