Purpose of Role

Provide managerial Environment, Health and Safety support and technical assistance to operational facilities; delivering against Sims EHS policy, strategies, plans, and goals

Reporting to

Regional EHS Partner

Principal Accountabilities

 

  • Support the implementation and operational understanding of EHS Standard requirements, local regulations, initiatives, EHS policy, and processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to facilitate learning and decision-making regarding the health and safety of workers and protection of the environment.
    • Focused on system-based continuous improvement regarding implementing and adopting control measures.
  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships with all levels in order to facilitate the delivery of EHS objectives and goals
  • Understand how work is done in the front-line and across an operating unit or function, including changing variables that increase risk profiles. Using this knowledge to report and advise on risk controls and procedures.
  • Coach operations in the effective implementation and use of the EHS management system, including EHS standards, training, tools (Critical Control Verifications, etc.) online delivery systems (Incident Data Management System & Learning Management System, etc.) and EHS communications.
  • Supports the EHS Partner, and where requested and required, manages region and group strategic projects requiring EHS technical expertise.
  • Support the investigation of significant EHS non-conformances or incidents, and identify and communicate corrective actions
  • Provide insight on process hazards and risk rating on incidents, Safe Work Procedures, and Job Safety Analysis.
  • Develop, in consultation with operations, EHS support documents such as unit-specific Standards,  Training material, Job Safety Analysis, and Safe Work Procedures
  • Drive opportunities to proactively standardize EHS control measures utilizing EHS lead indicator program, environmental assessment, and industrial hygiene data to facilitate regional/global improvement measures.
  • Facilitate learning and improvement from significant EHS events.
  • Work with Operations and Environmental personnel to understand community impacts and look for opportunities for improved environmental protection.
  • Participate in applicable internal and external audits and provide guidance on corrective actions
  • Support the facilitation of EHS training and implement appropriate programs in conjunction with special projects or specialized sites, where required.
  • Facilitate regulatory visits and regulatory reporting where required
  • Provide EHS information to customers and vendors as requested
  • Provide subject matter expertise to customer-facing audits, downstream vendor audits, and sub-contractor audits where required
  • Support the management of workers compensation, injury management, return-to-work, and rehabilitation arrangements
  • Support training and performance-management initiatives by trialing content with end-users and providing feedback to EHS leadership.
  • Lead site-specific / technical training development and implementation where needed
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for, and ensure compliance with all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability (SHECS) policies, procedures, and initiatives within the team
  • Promote diversity and inclusion, positive employee relations, and teamwork, and ensure all workers within the team are treated fairly and equitably
  • Manage costs in line with budgetary requirements and financial policies and procedures
  • Support and recommend continuous improvement initiatives and foster compliance with quality requirements
  • Support and ensure team compliance with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives
  • Cultivate a well-trained workforce, including support of performance-management and career-development initiatives

Experience / Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Min. of 5-7 years experience in a high hazard industrial environment, having site-wide or regional responsibility for safety and health issues
  • Experience implementing workplace health, safety, and environment management systems
  • Supervisory and training experience relating to job performance and safety on the job preferred
  • May include technical and/or professional certifications such as Industrial Hygiene, Workers Compensation management
