Are you an experienced Machine Operator looking for your next opportunity? We are seeking a safety-focused and reliable operator to join our busy Auckland Ferrous Yard. This is an exciting chance to build your skills, work with a supportive team, and develop your career within a growing business.

 

Reporting to the Yard Supervisor, you will play a vital role in the safe and efficient processing of scrap metal. Full training will be provided, along with opportunities to gain additional certifications and advance your career.

 

About the Role

 

As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy machinery and supporting daily yard operations while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Safely operate heavy machinery, including Material Handlers, Excavators, Shears, and Front-End Loaders.
  • Sort, identify, and process various types of scrap metal.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report operational issues.
  • Assist in achieving production targets through effective planning and prioritisation.
  • Work collaboratively with team members while also being capable of working independently.

 

About You

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

 

  • At least 2 years of experience operating heavy machinery or similar equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when identifying and sorting different metal materials.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Proven reliability, excellent attendance, and a strong work ethic.
  • The ability to follow safety procedures and contribute to a safe workplace culture.

 

Desirable Skills and Experience

 

The following would be an advantage:

 

  • Forklift licence and WTR endorsements.
  • Experience within the metal recycling industry.
  • Knowledge of metal sorting and processing techniques.
  • Experience operating additional heavy equipment such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, or forklifts over 20 tonnes.
