Job Summary
The brass sorting specialist apprentice will work/train with a brass sorting expert in a controlled atmosphere learning how to identify and sort all types of yellow and red brasses as well as high temperature nickel alloys.
 

Major Job Responsibilities/Duties

•    Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to company's safety plan
•    Follow directions/training of the brass sorting expert
•    Track material in “batch” form to later be recorded in a time & weight analysis
•    Communicate with commercial as to the outcome of the sort
•    Enter findings onto a pre-designed spreadsheet (Excel) to determine the value of the sort
•    Ability to operate a forklift to load and unload material onto shaker table or scale for weighing
•    Use a handheld analyzer to help determine the exact alloy of each metal
•    Learn the different types of alloys sorted and commit to memory and sight
•    Work in other areas of the facility as deemed necessary if sorting is complete


Job Qualifications

•    High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
•    Ability to stand at one station for periods of 2-4 hours
•    Ability to lift 40 lbs.
•    Experience in a recycling facility preferred but not necessary
•    Computer knowledge (Excel) a plus
•    Forklift experience 
•    Keen attention to detail
•    Ability to work near others on a picking line
