Job Summary:

To supervise feeder yard operations to ensure the processing of scrap metal is completed in a safe and efficient manner in line with company requirements. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maximise productivity by coordinating mobile plant requirements to ensure tasks are completed within the required timeframe. 

  • Allocate appropriate people, plant/ equipment to ensure safe & efficient completion of task. 

  • Perform basic fault finding and arrange other repairs to occur in a timely manner, in line with safe working requirements. 

  • Actively relieve the weighbridge / cashier or other yard team members as required. 

  • Assist Yard manager to maintain stock turns in accordance with established policy and business requirements. 

  • Maintain high levels of customer service for self and for indirect reports and ensure that customer and vendor service requirements are maintained to high level. 

  • Immediately report any verbal and written customer / vendor complaints obtained by yard and recommend actions to resolve customer concerns 

  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for, and ensure compliance with, all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability (SHECS) policies, procedures, and initiatives within a team 

  • Promote diversity and inclusion, positive employee relations, and team work, and ensure all workers within the team are treated fairly and equitably  

  • Manage costs in line with budgetary requirements and financial policies and procedures 

  • Support and suggest continuous improvement opportunities 

  • Support and ensure team compliance with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives  

  • Cultivate well-trained workforce, including support of performance-management, and career-development 

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, advanced diploma or level 4 award, certificate or diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in an industrial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred 

  • Knowledge of applicable regulations 

  • Knowledge and understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal, preferred 

  • Knowledge and understanding and experience with scrap metal processing, preferred 

Skills:

  • Ability to achieve results through others;  

  • Proven customer service skills 

  • Good Verbal and Written communication skills 

  • Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with customers 

  • Proven negotiation skills  

  • Numerical skills including the ability to work to budget within required deadlines and report on outcomes; 

  • Attention to detail; 

  • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously with limited direction; 

  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite; 

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks
