About our Company:

This position is with Alumisource, a subsidiary of Sims Limited. Sims Metal is the world’s leading publicly listed metal recycler, with operations encompassing the buying, processing, and selling ferrous and non-ferrous recycled metals. The metals recycling operations are geographically diverse, with operations in five continents, including the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom, comprising a network of processing facilities, many with deep-water port access, supported by an extensive network of feeder yards from which to source recyclable ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

 

Job Summary:

Operators load open top trucks and trailers, feed hoppers of processing equipment, manage storage piles around the plant, and assist in providing materials to the shredding process. Equipment includes scrap handling articulated cranes, front-end loaders, manlifts, skid steer, Bobcats, and forklifts to prepare for transport of scrap materials.

Inventory must be maintained according to standard operating procedures established by plant management. Must safely handle materials using powered mobile equipment as directed by plant management in accordance with established company policy. Must perform Pre-operational checks on the equipment assigned to them to operate. Pre-op Checklists and other operational reports are necessary for the operator to complete daily. Discrepancies must be reported immediately to management.

Occasional assistance to maintenance techs may be required during maintenance periods such as carrying materials for fabrication or spare parts to the job site.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • 2+ years or more of experience operating Heavy Equipment
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screen.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator comfortably.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, correspondence, & memos.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.
  • Follows all business health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
  • This position requires outdoor work, which includes inclement weather.

Experience:

  • Heavy equipment operation: 2 years (Required)
  • either Skid Steer, Loader, Crane or Excavator: 3 years (Required)
