The Shear Team Leader will be responsible for leading all aspects of shear operation at the Chesapeake Facility, including scrap material intake, shearing, shear maintenance and planning, quality assurance, product shipment, and production reporting. 

 

As a working team lead it is anticipated that on most days you would perform daily inspections, schedule required work, coordinate intake of raw materials, oversee production and actively lead shear maintenance and repair activities.  At times, the lead would feed the shear with a material handler, when production requirements demand.  The principle duties are:

  • Work with inspector(s) to assure intake material quality through proper grading and identification/separation of non-conforming items.
  • Perform daily inspection of hydraulic room, downstream components, shear blade wear and alignment, and any other critical components for daily operation.  Schedule and direct maintenance as appropriate.
  • Maintain consistently high production rates through efficient and safe operation and maintenance, while ensuring product specifications are met.
  • Operate material handler as needed to ensure production remains on target.
  • Regular production reporting, including coordinating, documenting, and communicating results of yield tests, non-routine production runs, and daily production reporting.
  • Developing and implementing the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedule.
  • Maintaining spare parts stocks.
  • Working with Ferrous Department Manager to ensure shipping deadlines are met.
  • Assisting Ferrous Department Manager with loading/unloading, timekeeping, ship loading, barge loading.

 

Required Skills:

  • At least three years of experience in welding & torch cutting (Certified Welder preferred)
  • Experience operating a material handler, excavator or other similar equipment
  • Mechanical aptitude, including experience inspecting and maintaining hydraulic equipment
  • Production planning aptitude and/or experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills to assure excellent customer service
  • Strong team leadership skills
  • Proficient in computer applications.

 

Preferred Skills :

  • Certified Welding Inspector
  • Experience leading teams
