The Non Ferrous Laborer is a key role in the production of recycling nonferrous scrap metal. The primary function is sorting nonferrous scrap material by its respected commodity, but also includes other various tasks to help with production. The role of a Non Ferrous Laborer is the foundation of processing nonferrous scrap metal.

 

Major Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Recognize and classify various metals including aluminum, brass, copper, alloys, stainless, etc.
  • Operate a forklift or a skid steer as needed to provide assistance when sorting material.
  • Assist with suppliers delivering inbound material. Help with unloading and loading.
  • Prepare and clean material with a torch as needed.
  • Various other tasks will be required and assigned as needed for continuous flow of operations.
  • Create and maintain a safe work environment. Follow SIMS Metal Management and OSHA safety requirements in all aspects of the day to day operations.
  • Take part in the safety program and raise concerns to management about unsafe acts or conditions. Report OBAs, Near Misses, and Incidents

 

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

 

Job Related Experience

  • Required to follow SIMS Metal Management and OSHA safety regulations
  • Willingness to continue to learn and grow with the company
  • Overtime may be required

 

Competencies

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions expected in the southwest region of the United States of America
  • Ability to learn quickly and stay motivated. Work at a continuous productive pace safely
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and stand for extensive periods of times
  • Ability to work in a team setting and be respectful to other coworkers
