Job Summary

To manage all yard operations including mobile and fixed plant, to ensure the sourcing, processing and transport of scrap metal is completed in a safe and efficient manner in line with company requirements.

 

Key Responsibilites: 

  • Manage yard productivity levels by maximizing people, mobile and fixed plant and material utilization for a medium sized yard.
  • Identify daily/weekly/monthly jobs/work requirements, establish key priorities and communicate these to the Yard Supervisor or team members as required.
  • Procure ferrous and/or non-ferrous materials within Buy Force guidelines and within legislative requirements.  
  • Review plant and equipment utilisation levels to ensure maximise efficiencies is delivered.
  • Monitor intake and output levels and take action to ensure minimal material wastage occurs during the production process.
  • Ensure internal and external customers are serviced in a timely manner.
  • Review and accurately identify ferrous and non-ferrous material and provide pricing in line with company pricing requirements.
  • Work with the transport team to manage yard based transport requirements and ensure load out rates are in accordance with company requirements.
  • Maintain stock turns in accordance with established policy and business requirements.
  • Maintain yard security in accordance with company requirements.
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for, and ensure compliance with, all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability (SHECS) policies, procedures, and initiatives within a team
  • Promote diversity and inclusion, positive employee relations, and team work, and ensure all workers within the team are treated fairly and equitably
  • Manage costs in line with budgetary requirements and financial policies and procedures
  • Support and suggest continuous improvement opportunities
  • Support and ensure team compliance with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives
  • Cultivate well-trained workforce, including support of performance-management, and career-development

 

Qualifications (includes Education, Job-related experience, certifications)

  • Associate degree, advanced diploma or level 4 award, certificate or diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years’ demonstrated managerial/supervisory experience in an industrial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in recycling industry, preferred
  • Experience in continuous process improvement, preferred
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma/5S concepts, preferred
